Small Changes that Make a Big Difference in Home Decor

The smallest of changes can make the biggest of differences in home decoration. A little sprucing here and updating there will make a stale room seem refreshed and brand new. While you may be enticed to pursue a full renovation inside your home, your budget may say otherwise. Fear not; in most cases, all that is required is a touch a paint, some new lighting, a new plant, some new linens, or other slight small changes in décor.

 Your Room, Your Sanctuary

After a long and stressful day, kicking off your shoes and hopping into a comfortable bed in a serene bedroom is just what the doctor ordered. If your mood can use a little lifting, consider investing in a can of paint to lighten the room. You spend a good portion of your life sleeping, so don’t overlook the benefits of sprucing up the bed. A brand new mattress that is comfortable, some new bedding, and some cloud-like pillows may be just the ticket.

Before you invest in a mattress that will last several years, do some research and take a look at some expert tips on what you should be searching for in a new mattress. For example, gone are the days where a foam mattress means higher temperatures thanks to the introduction of advanced technology that regulates temperature. If you’re looking for freedom in movement and don’t need to address pressure or body construing, innerspring mattresses may be your perfect match. A comfortable and appealing bed can take your bedroom from drab to fab.

Updating the Commode in Your Abode

A new shower, tub, tile, vanity, toilette, mirror, lighting, fan, and hardware all equal a new and hefty price tag. While together some of the bathroom upgrades are pricey, some upgrades are independently doable — even on the tightest of budgets. You’d be surprised at what new hardware can do to upgrade cabinets and walls. New towels and/or shower curtains can instantly give your tired bathroom a fresh new look.

A new or refurbished mirror with clean lines and sleek metals or beautiful wood, the focal point in a bathroom, will “wow” your guests. If you have a small bathroom, light and white are your best friends to help make the space look larger, so think about refinishing cabinets or adding some fresh new paint to open up the room. You can take your bathroom to a new level with a DIY project and install a new shelf or towel rack that reflects your signature look.

 Don’t Underestimate the Aesthetics

Even the smallest upgrades will make a world of difference aesthetically and simultaneously increase the value. You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but everyone does. The cover to your home is the front of the house, which includes the front entry. Is your door inviting to guests and screaming “come on in,” or is it weathered and worn? A fresh coat of paint, a new handle, a unique door knocker, and a welcoming doormat can change the entire feel of your home.

Once inside your home, take a look at your décor. Is it time to upgrade a lamp or a rug? Perhaps your home can use an affordable yet chic chair to fill that empty corner. There is no one right answer. However, one small change in décor, such as a splash of color using throw pillows or new outlet covers, can liven up a room.

You are one project away from a refreshed living space. If most of your time is spent in your bedroom, a new mattress and new bedding can give your home the upgrade it needs. If your bathroom could use a little TLC, you may be able to conquer a DIY project that makes a dramatic difference. Perhaps some new pillows on the couch, new curtains on your eye-catching windows, or a refreshed entry are the cosmetic fixes your home needs.
